    kale dill lime garlic tomatoes - smoothie
    5 kale leaves (green)
    1/2 bunch of fresh dill
    1/2 lime (juiced)
    3 cloves garlic
    1/4 cup sundried tomatoes
    2 cups of water

    Photobucket

    Juicing the kale and the dill makes this much more enjoyable.
    Should have used regular tomatoes vice sundried which are only for powerful blenders.

    Lettuce Onion Basil Lime Celery smoothie
    6 leaves of red leaf lettuce
    1/4 bunch of fresh basil
    1/2 lime (juiced)
    1/2 red onion
    2 celery sticks

    2 cups of water

    There was supposed to be a 1/4 avocado with the recipe which is already complex enough.
    One conclusion from this smoothie is that in the future the greens for the smoothie will be juiced. As I am using a normal blender vice a high power 'vegetarian' blender, it takes forever to blend. Even after extensive blending it is like eating the smoothie with foam and fiber on the left on the sides of the container when drinking.
    This was O.K but one half an onion is way over the top for adding onion flavor.

    Lettuce Mint Banana Green Smoothie
    1 handful lettuce leaves
    1 handful mint
    3 bananas
    2 cups water

    banana mint lettuce smoothie

    Probably will not make this again. Three bananas makes a thick shake.
    The texture and sweetness of bananas does not seem ideal for a green smoothie.

    Lunchbox Tomato Soup
    Ingredients

    * 1 large tomato
    * ¼ cup sunflower seeds, soaked and drained
    * 1½ cups water
    * 2 teaspoons sweetener
    * salt and pepper, to taste

    tomato soup with sunflower seeds

    1/4 cup of sunflower seeds was too rich for my taste. Reducing the seeds to a Tablespoon, dropping the sweetener and reducing the water made this more to my taste but not as creamy.

    new tool
    After wearing out 2 Dremel tools in the last year, A 1/3 hp Foredom drill was purchased.

    One nice feature is that variable speed control via the foot petal.
    The motor is away from the drilling to prevent dust from clogging the motor.
    The larger motor should allow for more continuous operation.
    A disadvantage of the Dremel is that it heats up quickly.
    The issue with the heat and the small size of the motor limits how long the tool can be used.
    The only disadvantage is that the tool is not as portable but this is not a problem with the intended use.

    Lighting for the hillside tank
    The lighting is housed in a wooden box enclosure. There is a smaller board inside and a larger board outside. This leaves a gap on the top to sit the lights and covers the frame of the tank on the bottom.

    Photobucket

    The lights are 3 40-watt spiral bulbs mounted vertically. They are mounted on using ceramic lighting fixtures.

    Photobucket

    Recently a reflector was added. The reflector is polished aluminum flashing.
    Three holes are cut for the bulbs and stiff metal wire is used to shape the reflector.

    The lights sit in the hood but can be removed easily for tank maintenance.

    Previously no CO2 or ferts were used. This time I will use CO2 injection via a glass CO2 nano diffuser and dose ferts to excess via EI or PPS pro with weekly water changes. No updates yet.
